The DAFO 5 Softy uses a soft foam liner inside a custom-fabricated, UCBL-style foot orthosis to provide comfort and flexible containment of the forefoot and heel. Two toe shelf trimlines are available: the standard option is more flexible, with the plantar surface plastic shell trimmed proximal to the 1st met head, and distal to the 5th, with the Softy liner extending full length. The outer frame can also be extended to full length with the liner, if preferred. Submalleolar trimlines offer a solution for patients who require more control than a shoe insert but don’t need the support of an above-ankle orthosis.
